Murder on the Orient Express

Original Book Cover

Hey guys and girls, and welcome to my blog! For my first post, I will be covering one of my favorite books ever, Murder on the Orient Express. Even better, they just came out with a movie for it this past November, so you can read the book, then watch the movie!

Murder on the Orient Express is a book by novelist Agatha Christie, and was published in the US on February 28th, 1934. It is also known in the US as Murder on the Calais Coach. Agatha Christie has written over 60 detective novels and 14 short story collections. Other well-known works include And Then There Were None, The Murder of Rodger Ackroyd, and The Mousetrap.

Rating: 9 Books out of 10

Ok, admittedly I am a little biased, but it really is good. I love Agatha Christie as an author, and her endings always have a little twist that keeps it interesting. She also has this unique gift of being able to paint her character's personalities rather well. I first read this when I was about 12, and I still love reading it over and over! She just draws you in with her characters, and their stories. This book features one of her main characters, Hercule Poirot, and is one of her most famous works.

Violence: This is a murder mystery, so there are slight references to violence, but nothing bad.

Profanity: One or two uses of d--n, and a for God's sake.

Last but not least, the movie! The newest movie was released in November of 2017, and I got the chance to see it. I personally really enjoyed it, but I haven't seen the others so I can't compare. If you are a movie buff (like me) I do recommend it though. If you are interested in watching the trailer first, here it is:

Well, I hope you finish off the post by reading the book, or by rereading it! I am so excited that God has given me the opportunity to share my love of books with you all. I hope you have a great rest of the week!

  2. Great review - and you picked a wonderful book for it! Murder on the Orient Express was the first Agatha Christie I ever read, and I've never looked back. The twist at the end is crazy, isn't it?

The movie is so amazing!! Some people I know weren't crazy about how they changed details, but I thought it stayed true to the spirit of the book. Except, of course, when they put "Believer" by Imagine Dragons in the trailer . . . that was interesting. :D

Well done! I just have one question: do you have a way for people to follow your blog through Blogger? Because I'd love to!

    1. Hey Brianna, I just updated the layout so you should be able to follow it! I do agree that while the movie may have deviated from the book slightly, they really tried to stay true to it. Thank you so much for your kind comments!

    2. Yay, I found it! I'm so excited to see what you have to say! I'm new to this whole blogging thing, too, so it's fun to see how other people start. :D

I thought so too. Of course, the best part is the end, and they handled that very well. What part of the movie was your favorite?

    3. Awesome! It's nice to know that there are other people just starting out too. My favorite part of the movie is probably the end, where he confronts them all together. I thought they created a very powerful scene there. How about you?

    4. Yes it is! I kept seeing people who'd been blogging for years and had everything together. It got a little depressing. :D

The end was probably my favorite part too. It's so dramatic, and it's so riveting. I also loved the soundtrack! It's very quiet, but it's super pretty. You should look it up if you're interested in orchestral music at all. What was your opinion on the filming?

    5. I do like orchestral music, so I will have to take a look! Hmm, that's a hard one! The filming was all done well, but I especially liked the back-and-forth dialogue between the characters other than Poirot, and I thought the flashbacks to the actual killing was a unique choice. How about you?

    6. A few of my favorites from the music are: "The Wailing Wall," "Departure," and "Justice." So good!
Yes, the filming was well done - I loved the variation, especially the birds-eye views. I also really liked how the actors brought out the characters' personalities to make them different and realistic. It was all really good, in my opinion. I'd totally watch it again, actually. Would you?
